We would all prefer not to admit it, but winter is coming. Days are shorter, leaves are changing colors, this also means it’s time to get your vehicle prepared for the cold months ahead. What should be inspected? The battery and charging system should be tested and confirmed to be in good working condition – in our region a battery is expected to last 4 to 5 years. Isn’t it better to find out now that your battery is on its ‘way out rather than…in January at-250 Cas you get ready to drive to work? Your engine’s antifreeze should also be tested to provide protection down to -400 C (usually works out to a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze). Quebec law states winter tires must be installed by December 15th and can be removed as of March 15th, keep in mind you will want more tire thread left in the winter than in the summer. Generally, a minimum of 6/32 (or approximately 2mm) is a good rule of thumb – you want your tires to have enough thread to be able to evacuate slush and cut through snow easily. No one likes to break down or be stuck in a snow bank, so make sure to get your vehicle prepared for winter and it won’t let you down. Happy motoring! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but… winter is coming
